Math models

Bathsheba Grossman - 120-Cell

This artist has some really interesting models of mathematical concepts and other metal sculptures. Amy really likes this one here. It is a 3D projection of a 4D solid.

Starting to come together

It is amazing what a week and a half will do. We now have running water, gas, and electricity running out to the house. The bathtubs, and my crappy shower are in, as well as the water heater. We have a chimmney, most of the siding is up, and most of the roofing is up as well. The fireplace that we were worried about is in and looking great. All the exterior windows and doors are in (except for the garage door). The HVAC vents are all in too.

Play with your furniture

Tetris shelving unit
I saw these today, and I think Amy might really like em. They might even be a good addition to the media room. Too bad they are $350 a piece.

Raisin' the roof

They have started putting up the framing for the roof. We looked at the area for the fireplace, and still couldn't tell what was going on with it. It looked like our front door is there too.

I got wood!

I didn't think I would get so hot and bothered, but today, I GOT WOOD!!!!

Just looking at the slab it looked a lot smaller than when we were inside the house, but things seem a little bit more to scale now that we can see where the walls are going to to. It looks like it is going to be really tall, nearly as tall as the two story houses on either side. I might be able to turn the toilet and still have my steam shower.

We are a little concerned about the fireplace, as it looks like they might not be building it with the opening on either side. The building plans that they are using were on the site, and there weren't any marks on the fireplace, so we are going to have to keep a close watch.

Building Schedule

I posted a copy of the building schedule up so that we can keep track of where we are in the process, and how well they estimate everything. There are two rows, a low estimate and a high estimate, which is usually about double the low estimate.

If everything gets pushed out all the way, we may be moving in on Amy's birthday!

Everything's bigger in Texas

Hopefully, a huge foundation means a solid foundation. I'm in the shot for perspective on hosw tall the foundation is in the front yard.

For more pictures from that day, visit here. (I have also posted springtime pictures from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower center there.)

Time to bury Guito...

This photo shows the beginnings of the foundation and plumbing.
